Outdoor education (also known as adventure education) usually refers to organized learning that takes place in the outdoors. Programs often involve residential or journey-based experiences in which students participate in a variety of adventurous challenges such as hiking, climbing, canoeing, ropes courses, and group games. Outdoor education programs draw upon the philosophy and theory of experiential education and may also focus on environmental education.

The “Digital Bus” is a mobile science and technology lab supporting K12 schools and community organizations throughout Maui Nui. As a part of the Hawaii Source Education Outreach program, this mobile learning platform offers field-based, engaging science projects at outdoor locations and at school sites.

All curriculum utilized in Hawaii Department of Education Schools is based on the Hawaii State Content and Performance Standards for Science and Education Technology.

In school year 2005-2006 the Hawaii Source Education Outreach program is expanding its reach by providing staffing and curriculum support to the “Techno Studio Bus” on the Big Island of Hawaii.
