Spaceship Earth ... All We Have

This image is in the public domain, from NASA, image #AS17-148-22727. Taken by US Navy Captain Ronald E. Evans, aboard Apollo 17 mission, on 7 December 1972. He used a 70mm Hasselblad camera. This view of Earth was taken 21 750 nautical miles from Earth and shows the west coast of Africa.

People without a "shared sense of place in space" could NOT care less about it; and, their careless behaviors reflect this attitude ...

Full Description
View of the Earth as seen by the Apollo 17 crew traveling toward the Moon.

This translunar coast photograph extends from the Mediterranean Sea area to the Antarctica South polar ice cap. This is the first time the Apollo trajectory made it possible to photograph the South polar ice cap.

Note the heavy cloud cover in the Southern Hemisphere. Almost the entire coastline of Africa is clearly visible. The Arabian Peninsula can be seen at the Northeastern edge of Africa.

The large island off the coast of Africa is the Malagasy Republic. The Asian mainland is on the horizon toward the Northeast.

This NASA Apollo 17 photo reflects the General Prudential Rule (GPR)

For EarthSea-Keepers, it’s Gaia’s Hippocratic Oath:
F1RST, do no harm to Spaceship Earth’s Oceans …

While supporting CincPacFlt Task Force 130 … our Quartermaster Crew maintained the Pacific Theater’s chart locker.

Our decision support systems included a computer-based “Sea Surveillance System” that merged C4I geo-referenced formatted ship movement/tracking data from current operations and current intelligence sources. I confirmed that today’s Google Earth applications are a direct derivative of FOCCPAC’s bioneering (operations research) prototype applications …

We learned our customized classified reports acquired a biased “trust factor” greater than the mix of inputs justified. Some PacRim “emergency operations” command center clients became victims of Garbage In, Gospel Out (GIGO) mindshifting! So, we automated “Information Integrity Assurance” (IIA) scripts to flag detectable exceptions for quicker correction …

When USS Iwo Jima (LPH-2) deployed for her NASA Apollo 13 Command Capsule Recovery mission, I made special arrangements to display multiple plots based upon different data feeds including DARPA’s SRNS-1 prototype. This ad-hoc “blended visual learning” experiment became an empowering tipping point for CincPAC group decision support systems!

By adapting prior lessons learned, WWMCCS Ocean Surveillance Systems began integrating computer-aided audit techniques that calculated “weighted-average truth factors” using multiple experience-based criteria. In 1972, General Mills adopted similar anti-GIGO algorithms to support that firm’s emerging Electronic Data Processing (EDP) Audit capabilities …

After accepting USNR (Oct-1981) retirement orders, I was among the first Certified Information Systems Auditors (CISA). Our Minnesota’s CISA cohort prototyped a 10-week CISA-Exam preparation course using “near peer” self-guided courseware … This ALL-WinWin coaching, mentoring & tutoring) model evolved as a future thought leadership learning collaboratory. I challenged our Minnesota Futurists Chapter to adapt this framework as a “Praire Passage Eco-Futures Forum” prototype …

Our 2002 “Mentorship Vision 2005” strategic innovation efforts adapted the global “Digital Library Initiative” to co-create “actionable distilled insights” we began sharing via online “Millennium Generation” FutureThought thinkLets. During 2005, we re-focused our ACCTTS-LLC (High-TEK) efforts on inter-regional “MentorshipART of Peace” (MAoP) mindshifting protocols.

We launched multiple Kaw Valley Heritage Adventuring (KVHA) eco-challenge courseware prototypes during 2004-2009. Guiding “Bleeding Kansas” perspectives thru a Freedom’s Frontier National Heritage Area (FFNHA) Master Plan for USNPS “Enviro-Education” interpretation became our contribution to this region’s persistent pursuit of “sustainable wellbeing” …

I met NLPsyOps author Bruce Dillman who was a "near peer" of NASA Apollo Astonaut Ron Evans during 2006:

Dennis Nun, president of Heartland International, Inc., called Results on Target "The best communication book I ever read." Everything we do involves some kind of communication, so you are more likely to get the results you want when you know basic communication processes.

This book translates highly effective Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) skills and techniques into everyday English. It's easy to get results. It's better to get results you want. Results On Target gives you practical steps to improve your results and avoid many common traps.

After 50 years, I've got a chance to help guide a Heart of America Council BSA Eagle Scout Project as Watershed Marshal for VFW Post 6654. We adapted these guidelines for coaching, mentoring & tutoring our M-Gen candidate:

Community Tool Box - Section 2. Survival Skills for Advocates
(Chapters 3... > Chapter 30. Principles of Advocacy >
Section 2. Survival Skills for Advocates >

Here, you'll find a checklist summarizing
the major points contained in the text.

Try these survival skills for advocacy:

___Accentuate the positive
___Emphasize your organization's accomplishments to the community
___Plan for small wins
___Present the issues in the way you want others to see them
___Develop your own public identity
___Check your facts
___Keep it simple
___Be passionate and persistent
___Be prepared to compromise
___Be opportunistic and creative
___Stay your course
___Look for the good in others
___Keep your eyes on the prize
___Make issues local and relevant
___Get broad based support from the start
___Work within the experiences of your group members
___Try to work outside the experiences of your opponents
___Make your opponents play by their own rules
___Tie your advocacy group's efforts to related events
___Enjoy yourself!

Pathfinder to the Stars:

Ronald Ellwin Evans wrote the following from his pilot's perch on Apollo 17:

"The Blues of the oceans
The whites of the clouds
The reds and tans of the continents
The Earth rotates with such precision

As you watch the continents come into the sunlight and then disappear into total darkness
As you watch it progressively change from a full Earth, to a one half Earth, to a one quarter Earth, and then just a thin sliver ....
To see such a sight cannot help but reinforce your belief in God"

As a Kansas University Sigma Nu fraternity brother, I benefited from Ronald Evans leadership legacy (1961-1965).

Then, as a commissioned US Navy reserve officer, I adapted and expanded his Pathfinder to the Stars leadership by example (1966-2006).

Ron Evans' career may have inspired naming Pathfinder (Star Trek series)
